welcome to duCret school of art

The School was founded in 1926 by artist and teacher Marjorie Van Emburgh, whos intention was to create an institution where students could obtain an art education comparable with that found in schools and academies in New York and Philadelphia. The School was originally located in a large carriage house in a residential area of Plainfield, a small city located about thirty miles from New York City and not far from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. This location provided a quiet suburban setting with the advantages of the close proximity of those cities.

In the early thirties, in keeping with its mission of providing a high quality art education, the School's teaching staff included such prominent artists as Jonas Lie, N.A., John Carlson, N.A., Yasno Kuniyoshi and William Zorach. In keeping with that tradition, the School continues to bring to the classroom some of the best artists, illustrators, and designers in the area.

There is an important piece of legislation being considered right now that should be very important to US Illustrators and independent artists. The Orphaned Works Act would require you to create copies of every piece you've ever created and register it with multiple private registries, or risk giving up any rights to unregistered work you've created.

This is, of course, a huge shift in copyright, and should concern every designer, illustrator and design agency. Learn more after the link.
