Adult Summer Workshops are open to anyone (16 yrs+ with parental permission). Registration is accepted up until the beginning dates of any workshop, unless seats have been filled. For all drawing classes, please bring these materials: HB, 2B, 4B pencils, 11 x 14 sketch pad, eraser and sharpener, unless otherwise indicated in class descriptions. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL WORKSHOPS. 


JEWELRY DESIGN

Instructor:  Larry Gove
Basic design and fabrication of jewelry in sterling silver with semi-precious gem stones. The course will cover use of hand tools, sawing, filing, soldering, drilling, polishing, assembling rings and pendants with bezel and prong settings. Shop safety and use of torches, polishing machines, ultrasonic and steam cleaning will be covered. Materials needed: Materials supplied in class. (Optional: Bring any gemstones, old jewelry pieces you may want to work with or have questions about)  PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

In this try-it-out  workshop, you'll learn if 'Tiffany Method' stained glass is something you would be interested in before making an investment in tools. Get step-by-step instruction on pattern preparation, how to cut glass, grinding, foiling, and soldering while working on your first piece. Intermediates and advanced are encouraged to work on refining or completing personal works. Fee includes all materials needed for this class.

Explore properties of various stoneware clay and learn to enhance and use these to sculpt a miniature sculpture. Shape, design, surface structure is an interesting playing field the student will explore and develop. We intentionally abandon pre-manufactured, commercial materials and rely essentially on three materials: stoneware clay, slip, natural stone. Tools: Our hands, carving tools, kick wheel, hand-turned wheel, cloth, sponge, wire brush, wooden modelling tool. Clay included.

Learn basic bookbinding techniques, including the pamphlet, accordion, concertina, stab binding and coptic stitch.  Ideal for making journals and samplers for artist’s books with developed ideas, leading to edition-ed books. Get familiar with the basic materials (paper, cloth, board, adhesives) and techniques (folding, sewing, gluing). Materials needed: bring different decorative papers, old prints, book cloth, and other printed material that could be used for the covers or for the text block.

Torn Paper Collage

Learn collage techniques including interpreting their reference material into a format that can be executed in ripped paper collage. Summer Workshop Refund Policy: For workshops that meet 5 or more times: 100% Refund will be given if dropped prior to the first class/session series. 80% Refund will be given if dropped after the first class. No refund will be given once a second workshop class has commenced. For Workshops that meet 4 or fewer sessions: 100% refund will be given if dropped prior to the first class. No refund will be allotted once a workshop class has commenced. All refunds must be done in writing and be received before the start of the session as listed. Workshop drops will not be accepted by phone.
