Improve figure drawing skills by studying the underlying structure of the human form (bone, muscle, tendon and cartilage), while sharpening observational skills through careful study of the surface form. Work from casts, photos, skeleton, live models and overlays of the muscular system as anatomical information in applied to artistic use. The fall semester will cover drawing heads and portraits.

Instructor: Christine Myshka
Examination of the structural and expressive factors of the figure and a look at their interrelation with the drawing. The use of line drawing, planes and masses, foreshortening and anatomy are used to aid in drawing the nude and draped figure.

Instructor: Monica Baumann
This course will cover drawing and painting the head. How to construct the head using planes, forms, proportions and placement of the features and the effect of light and shade on the head. In addition, the course encompasses the palette and complexion of the model; composition using various objects as they relate to portraiture and how to draw and paint drapery. The course includes painting the portrait from photographic reference. Download registration form.
