BYOL Course (Bring Your Own Laptop)
An encompassing course that will enable the student to create original art from scratch or take digital photography as a clone source and translate it into simulated watercolor, oils or pastels. This software is so life like that you can actually see watercolor paint dry on the paper on your monitor. *Students should have some Photoshop background. Students must have Corel Painter X or XI installed on their own laptop computers.  Instructor will assist students in getting a student version of this software is need be.

Concentration is on advanced studio and environmental portraits. More detail will be given to the use of props and colored gels in lighting effects and set design. You will also learn what goes into making a career of photography either working for a studio or running your own business. The practical applications, will be marketing and PR as well as copyright laws.  Students will seek out a real client to run a photo shoot as part of their final portfolio project. The class will be a blend of 2nd and 3rd year students. On occasion students will be invited to assist  on real photo shoots with the instructor and other studio owners for a true hands on experience. This course will run from the fall and continue into the spring semester.

Students will begin to develop a photographic vision as they learn the basics of digital photography. The assignments will introduce the many key elements of photographic compostions: focal point, texture, shape, among others.

A foundation course that will cover the essentials of typical facial enhancements, restoration of damaged heirloom photos, color correction, digital album design, templates, digital makeup, gradients, presets, custom textures, brushes, styles, Camera Raw, the Bridge, workflow to name a few. If you work with digital images you need to know how to handle them in the best way possible. This class will be an important facet to your graphic design knowledge.

The MAC computer lab has CS4 loaded on it’s computers and Wacom tablets. If you choose to use your own laptop computer you will be required to have either CS3 and/or CS4 installed on your own laptop computers, as well as a pressure sensitive Wacom type of tablet. All students should have some kind of portable media to transfer their projects.
