Basic design and fabrication of jewelry in sterling silver with semi-precious stones. The course will cover use of hand tools, sawing, filing, soldering, drilling, polishing, assembling rings and pendants with bezel and prong settings. Shop safety and use of torches, polishing machines, ultrasonic and steam cleaning will be covered.

Explore properties of various stoneware clay and learn to enhance and use these to sculpt a miniature sculpture. Shape, design, surface structure is an interesting playing field the student will explore and develop. We intentionally abandon pre-manufactured, commercial materials and rely essentially on three materials: stoneware clay, slip, natural stone. Tools: Our hands, carving tools, kick wheel, hand-turned wheel, cloth, sponge, wire brush, wooden modeling tool.

Begin with simple designs and straight cuts. Advanced students will be encouraged to design and create more intricate, curved glass projects including, complex 2-D and 3-D projects. Learn how to use soldering iron, flux, glass cutters, running pliers and grozing pliers and put an entire creation together.

Learn to create depth and 3D likeness by using light and shade penciling techniques. Class covers the correct usage of pencils and papers, how to use a color wheel for the mixing of colors in oil, and correct brushes and brush techniques, including palette preparation.

If you've ever loved cutting up and re-designing old clothes, sketching fashion outfits or love fashion photo images or styling and assembling wardrobe pieces, then learn how to turn your creativity into a practical plan that may launch you into the exciting field of fashion. The fashion industry is a meeting of art, design and business. Gain an understanding of the four phases of fashion field: design, manufacturing, marketing/promotion, and retail sales, including salary ranges available and learn back door ways for how to break into the fashion industry, with your own creations. Assemble ideas and fabrics for creating the start of a collection or brand line and expand to the actual creation of those designs, which can include working on mannequins, draping, some hand sewing and the bare bones basics of taking 2D designs to 3D prototypes.
