Adult Summer Workshops are open to anyone (16 yrs+ with parental permission). Basic design and fabrication of jewelry in sterling silver with semi-precious gem stones. The course will cover use of hand tools, sawing, filing, soldering, drilling, polishing, assembling rings and pendants with bezel and prong settings. Shop safety and use of torches, polishing machines, ultrasonic and steam cleaning will be covered. Materials needed: Materials supplied in class. In this try-it-out  workshop, you'll learn if 'Tiffany Method' stained glass is something you would be interested in before making an investment in tools. Get step-by-step instruction on pattern preparation, how to cut glass, grinding, foiling, and soldering while working on your first piece. If you've ever loved cutting up and re-designing old clothes, sketching fashion outfits or love fashion photo images or styling and assembling wardrobe pieces, then learn how to turn your creativity into a practical plan that may even launch you into the exciting field of fashion. Assemble ideas and fabrics for creating the start of a collection or brand line and expand to the actual creation of those designs, which can include working on mannequins, draping, some hand sewing and the bare bones basics of taking 2D designs to 3D prototypes. Materials needed: portable sewing machine. Can be a mini machine, material scissors and a small thread kit.

PRINTMAKING

Learn how to screen print!  From screen prep to final print, learn to properly use screen printing equipment, tools, and basic tips and tricks to print your very own designs. In this hands-on screen printing process demonstration, students will expose their screens and practice pulling a few prints with the instructor’s guidance. Screen printing is a very rewarding form of art and a promising career. This course will ensure you walk away with your very own original printed t-shirt! BATIK

Batik is a 2000 year old art form first used by the Malay People in various parts of Indonesia and the East. Batik is a method of waxing and dying natural fiber cloth. A design is drawn onto the cloth. Dyes are selected and the area not to be dyed is waxed by using paint brushes, rollers or other tool called a tjungting. Students will practice a process of repeated waxing and dipping in cold water dyes until the desired design is achieved.  Materials Needed: pencil eraser, 11 x 14 pad of paper, carbon paper, 2 - 3 pieces of (natural fiber ONLY) lightweight silk, linen or cotton material approximately 12 x 18", small, medium and large flat/rounded paintbrushes, and a dollar store flat bin approximately 2 x 3' (Approximately cat litter box size for dying your designs). Waxes and dyes will be supplied.
