Throughout the year the duCret School of Art hosts art events on campus and also participates in art events throughout the state of New Jersey. Many faculty members, as well as students are involved yearly in local fairs, festivals, art exhibitions and art demonstrations. Join us for cocktails, a buffet dinner, and live music celebrating the duCret school of Art. A silent auction benefits the school, which is NJ's oldest non-profit art school, founded in 1926.

Celebrated and world recognized NJ artists from duCret will be donating artwork for a silent auction. Dine with faculty members, alumni, students and friends of duCret.

The Watchung Arts Center proudly presents the varied artwork of faculty, board members, alumni and students from the duCret School of Art. Come view art from several well known and professional Central Jersey artists who have made a lifetime career in the fine art field. Meet the artists and speak directly with them about their path as artists, their work and view many forms of fine art from sculpture to oil, acrylic, watercolor, etc.

JANUARY - AIRBRUSH DEMONSTRATION w/PETER AMBUSH
Swain Galleries will be presenting 25 original oil paintings of flowers by artist Maxwell Sang. Max has donated an original oil painting titled “WHITE LILY” (16”x12”), valued at $600.00 as a door prize.
Max chose to paint a white lily in honor of Greta Schoenmann, a Westfield High School freshman who died from injuries sustained on 9/11/02, because it was her favorite flower.
Swain Galleries will donate 20% of each sale
from Max’s paintings during the show, September 7 to the
28th, to Greta’s Run. These proceeds will benefit new and
existing programs for people with special needs at the
Westfield Area Y, a cause that would have been dear to Greta because her sister has Cerebral Palsy.

AIRBRUSH FINE ART DEMONSTRATION

The Westfield Art Association’s 2013-14 season will open with a presentation / demonstration of air brush fine art painting by Peter Ambush of the duCret School of Art.


Using an airbrush and watercolor, acrylic, or ink, Ambush creates large portraits and a wide variety of other artworks with such realistic detail that they may easily be mistaken for photographic prints.


Peter worked for more than a decade for the Newark Star Ledger as a graphic artist and illustrator, creating over 400 covers for the paper's weekly "Scanner" TV guide. Ambush has illustrated eight book covers, and two books, "One Million Men and Me" written by Kelly Starling Lyons and "It's Church Going Time," for Just Us Books of East Orange, NJ.

The duCret School of Art proudly hosts it's annual Miniature Art Show and Sale on Sunday, December 8th from 2 pm - 5 pm. The show is entirely run by students, who have hand crafted holiday and gift items that are all under the size dimensions of 12" x 12". (This year's event is extended by 1 hour to accommodate those on the annual  Plainfield Historic Homes Holiday Tour, held on the same day)

Tour the school and come speak to the students one on one, view artwork in all mediums, including; ceramics and pottery, oil, acrylic and water color paintings, photography, graphic artwork, pastel, charcoal, silk screen clothing, stained glass, gold and silver jewelry. Purchase affordable original designs for loved ones. Live music and refreshments are provided!

Bring the whole family, park in the back parking lot and use the back/stage entrance.

December 15, 2013 - "Children's' Book Illustration"
by Kenneth Schwarz, duCret School of Art

duCret instructor and children's book author, Kenneth Schwarz is a multi-accomplished facilitator, passionate about improving NJ's art education industry - no matter what age an artist begins. Responsible for creating the 2 Year Nationally Accredited Interior Design Program at duCret, Kenneth also currently teaches Color Theory at the school.

February 16, 2014 - "Artistic Anatomy"

duCret graduate and director of the duCret School of Art for over 35 years, Frank Falotico is a NJ phenomenon who has forged and maintained a very unusual teaching ethic for artists of today's world. To this day Frank still teaches his students in a family friendly way that warmly encourages students to take ownership of their soul calling to do art. Learn key aspects of the physical human anatomy that serve to make painters and sketch artists more prolific in their works.

March 16, 2014 - "Gardner Heist Gossips"

Listen to the fascinating 'insider' stories of some of this century's largest art heists garnered personally by Gardner Art Heist investigator, Charles Sabba. Classifying himself as an artist first and crime solver second, Charles will take you on a most intriguing journey via the criminal mindset and 'antics' behind famous art theft cases - from the dualistic point of view of artist and thief.

The demonstrations are held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Community Room of the Westfield Municipal Building, 425 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ 07090. The Community Room is handicapped-accessible. The Westfield Art Association is a 501[c]3 organization under the Internal Revenue Regulations and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The Westfield Art Association’s 2013-14 season will open with a presentation / demonstration of “Painting Techniques of the Renaissance Masters” by duCret School of Art instructor, Michael Donato.


Michael Donato graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1974 with a B.F.A. and has been working as a professional artist/illustrator ever since. His illustrations have appeared in both editorial and children’s markets and his commissioned paintings have appeared in galleries and are part of private collections. He has been teaching drawing, advanced painting, and illustration for the past 20 years, and continues to do so at the duCret School of Art in Plainfield and at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. He has been involved with various Artist in Residence programs sponsored by the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission of New Jersey. These residencies included supervising mural projects in Central Ward Newark, teaching drawing and painting to under privileged children, as well as, adults in various communities, and teaching a prison arts program which resulted in the publication of a book titled “Drawing from Within”, a compilation of inmate artwork. The meeting is open to the public and is handicapped-accessible.

The duCret Community Resource Center offers art training starting at the age of six and welcomes high school teens, adults and active seniors to partake in all workshops and activities that the school offers throughout the year.
