DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY I
PH-370 Susan Meyer
Introduction to digital photography, from image capture, to final output and everything in between. Topics covered will be file size and quality, white balance, color calibration, scanning techniques, introduction to Photoshop CS (Ver. 8) and Photoshop Elements 2. The final phase covered is output options both in-house and commercial with a focus on ICC Profiles focusing on consistency for predictable results. This will be a PC based mini lab. Students are welcomed to bring their own personal laptops. Knowledge of Basic Photography and computer file handling is a prerequisite.

ADVANCED CERAMICS
FA-227 Kirsten Sejda
A continuation of Ceramics I with emphasis on completion of specific projects in hand building or wheel throwing, using discipline and consistency to develop the individual's style with professional results.

COLOR I
FDA-120 Bonnie Kubiak / Joan Arbeiter
The study of color, its characteristics and interaction through the medium of paint. The first semester is designed to acquaint students with basic properties of color identification, allowing the student to create and modify the range of hue, value and color strength, while mastering paint mixing and paint application. The second semester places emphasis on the study and application of color theory and systems to achieve designed effects in visual communication.

FIGURE DRAWING / PASTEL
FA-296/FA-396 Rhoda Yanow
Working from live models, the student will concentrate on excellent draftsmanship, experiment with various techniques of pastel painting and develop an individual style. All instruction is done on an individual level working from the model with concentration on textures, shadows, edges and backgrounds. In this way they become their own person and learn to create as they wish.
 

EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION
IL-387 Michael Donato
Emphasis will be placed on developing a consistent style as well as the techniques of conceptual problem solving in the creation of art work based on the written word. Assignments will be of an editorial nature with contemporary themes. All assignments will be used as portfolio samples intended for professional presentation.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
GD-232 Wanda Blake
This course will prepare you for your work in an ad agency or in other advertising areas. It will stress creativity, ad techniques such as markers and subjects such as print ads, story boards facility brochures and other ad agency output. If possible class will include a campaign presentation with creative director and art director to participate.

LIFE DRAWING / PASTEL

All instruction is done on an individual level working from the model with concentration on textures, shadows, edges and backgrounds. The result is that each student's work is unique.

CERAMICS I
FA-127 Kirsten Sejda
This course offers both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques. It is specifically geared to help students achieve their goals, at their particular skill level. Special attention to, and tips for developing clay fundamentals will be addressed.

PHOTOGRAPHY I
PH-170 Susan Meyer
A basic study of cameras and general darkroom techniques, including exposure, shutter controls, mixing chemicals, and the developing of film and paper. Other topics covered will be specialized printing techniques, color tinting, toning, mounting for presentation, introduction to portraiture, and studio lighting, with classroom lectures, and demonstrations. An occasional video of famous photographers and their work round out the course.

DIGITAL PAINTING & ILLUS.
IL-294 William O'Connor
A variety of techniques and lessons is offered to the student learning to become proficient in digital painting techniques. Working on a variety of exercises concerning texture, design, composition, color observation, abstraction, collage, scanning and photo manipulation, applications for Fine Art, Illustration, Photography and mixed media are encouraged. Students already proficient in Photoshop and Mac OS only please.

PHOTOSHOP CS FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC APPLICATIONS
PH-271E/PH-371E Susan Meyer

This foundation course will cover all the essentials. You will learn tool basics, filters, color correction, levels, actions, keyboard shortcuts, layer masks, styles and type effects. Real-world applications will be emphasized. You will perform typical portrait enhancements, such as basic facial retouching and head swaps; restore damaged heirloom photos; create old-fashioned_vignettes and duplicate vintage hand tinting. Create time-saving custom actions, batch commands, droplets, customize preferences and more. Students will receive a CD with image files for each lesson and a second CD loaded with class note files and a host of other "goodies". A digital projector wil lbe utilized so all students can watch the step-by-step demonstrations at the same time. If you have a laptop, you are welcome to bring it to class.


ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
CA-214/CA-314 Lluana Jones
This course is designed to teach the basic through advanced techniques of Adobe Photoshop through discussions and hands-on step-by-step projects. The students will cover the most important features of Photoshop as they create attractive and practical images for use in graphic design and illustration.


Constructing Heads/Portraits
FA-226/FA-326 Frank Falotico

This course is for individuals who wish to increase their understanding of the elements that go into constructing the human head when drawing, painting or sculpting portraits. Study of the bones, muscles, individual features and planes of the head will be through lectures and modeling the head in clay.
