TEENS AFTER SCHOOL

Career Introduction workshops for Teens in High School (Ages 14 - 18) are designed as live studio-based learning modules (8 weeks per session series), which enable creatively gifted individuals to explore and manifest their own unique creativity in areas of their personal interest. These workshops focus on completion of portfolio pieces suitable for presenting to colleges or specialty institutions for admission acceptance. Students gain first hand experience and understanding as to what it feels like 'to design' product to nationally recognized art industry standards, while producing their own original works under the guidance of working professionals.

[14 - 18 YRS] Under a professional commercial & fashion photographer's guidance, teens experience the entire scope of a full studio photo shoot relating to the NYC fashion industry. Includes working on professional camera equipment, learning camera settings and lighting for studio shoots, styling, makeup, wardrobe, background staging, product placement, and editing for print and web. Students can opt to be in front of and/or behind the camera.

[14 - 18 YRS] Designed as a 'portfolio development' workshop, students will take their creative ideas, map them loosely out on canvas, utilizing light / dark values for guiding lines, while employing composition skills. Working with a color palette, students will learn to develop confidence by practicing loose 'contemporary style' to tight 'traditional style' rendering techniques.  Bring protective clothes. * Please estimate $50.00 for supplies to be purchased at school store on first day, or bring:  (1) 16 x 20 canvas and 1 set of acrylic basic paints, 2 round and 2 flat brushes of different sizes.

[14 - 18 YRS] Develop drawing and rendering skills once demonstrated only by skilled masters from the Renaissance period. Take modern subject matter and put an old world twist to a sketches.  Students will learn and then demonstrate via their drawings, knowledge of art history, while being able to complete artwork for their portfolios.  Students work from all pencil types, including graphite, charcoal and conte, to develop composition skills, and understandings of form, negative space, light source, soft and hard edges & shading techniques.

[14 - 18 YRS] Introducing the F.A.B. Coalition (Fashion Against Bullying), a workshop that integrates a social concern with fashion design in order to create conscious-raising messages in the fashion industry. Student's will harness their creativity into wearable art illustrations. Each class is set into (4) areas: Project & Presentation, Discussion & Assessment. Workshop projects include creating Fashion Boards, Merchandising Boards (in group), Client Boards and students will assemble a 3D version of their own unique fashion design. Discussions focus on confidence vs. arrogance, respect,  judgment, gender acceptance, world perception and such topics will be integrated into designs with purpose.

[14 - 18 YRS] A 'portfolio development' workshop focusing on quick study foundation skills, which lead to a polished and complete drawing suitable for college prep interviews or to place into a commercial art collection. Drawing is the foundation of painting and by practicing basic skills in professional drawing, students will learn how to quickly produce eye catching renderings. *This class prepares for 'Painting for Portfolio' workshops. No experience needed. * Please estimate $50.00 for supplies to be purchased at school store on first day or bring: (1) 11 x 14 sketch pad and a mixed set of charcoal pencils (including 1 white charcoal) and eraser.

Coalition (Fashion Against Bullying) workshop focuses on the fashion industry as a career choice with emphasis placed on cultivating one's own designs into a collection of wearable art. Starting with sketches and illustrations, students will then translate their designs to materials, while working off of live models and mannequins. Lessons will include: the art of draping their designs, pinning, gathering and hand stitching complete clothing templates. Teens will then assemble their creations for a professional photographic shoot and will prepare a group collection for a NYC Fashion Week style 'Cultural Consciousness' fashion show.

[14 - 18 YRS] This 'portfolio development' workshop focuses on painting application skills in oil and includes: color mixing, pre-mixing and blending on a palette, brush types, brush stroke techniques, which will lead into a completed piece suitable for college prep and portfolio presentations. It is highly advised that students take the preliminary 'Drawing for Portfolio' Workshop, however, no experience is needed to start. Students will work on theme subjects of their own choosing. * Please estimate $50.00 for supplies to be purchased at school store on first day, or bring:  (1 ) 16 x 20 canvas and 1 set of water-mixable oil paints, 2 round and 2 flat brushes of different sizes.
