Create your designs, build your screens and learn the essential basics of the silkscreen process. This class is great for creating business logos, t-shirt signature artwork or working with a variety of printable cloth surfaces that can ultimately be used as advertising and marketing tools for shows or events.

Learn the difference between a pastel drawing and pastel painting and create from there. Master the art of working with a variety of pastel types (hard, soft, pencils & oil) and the variety of papers best suited for pastel paintings. Choose to work on scenic landscapes or still life figures, and gain better understanding of blending styles, hard and soft edges, light source and shadow effects and what makes for great composition when designing your piece. Work to complete one or several finished pieces.

Start with an introduction to the art form of pen and ink by experimenting with pen nibs, various paper types, markers and ink brushes in combination with watercolor washes to learn how papers and watercolors interact with the ink medium. Develop your own style as you learn to characterize via caricature, zentangle patterns and fine art sketches and simply black and white art.

This class is designed for beginners to intermediates. Students will work on individual and group projects making functional and non-functional objects using wheel throwing methods. Learn to conceptualize, build and design unique, one of a kind pieces in clay. Hand building and working with glazes, with emphasis on a wide variety of organic decorating techniques will be introduced. Hand build or learn the wheel.

Whether you're considering a career in jewelry or just looking to take your beading skills to the next level, learn basic design and fabrication of professional gem and silver crafting, using semi-precious stones. This course will cover the use of hand tools, sawing, filing, soldering, drilling, polishing, assembling rings and pendants with bezel and prong settings. Shop safety and use of torches, polishing machines, ultrasonic and steam cleaning will be covered. Design one-of-a-kind signature pieces or learn how to cast molds for mass production purposes. Beginners are encouraged.

Typography is the cornerstone of solid graphic design. This class covers the rules of good typography and the basics of how type can “set the mood” for your design. Font styles, sizes, and proper typeface structure can make or break a good layout. With various hand-on projects, students will develop an appreciation for the letter form and understand how type has a visual influence on materials ranging from print to online.

[Foundation] Improve figure drawing skills by studying the underlying structure of the human form, (bone, muscle, tendon, and cartilage), while sharpening observational skills through careful study of the surface form. Work from casts, photos, skeleton, live models, and overlays of the muscular system as anatomical information is applied to artistic use. The fall semester will cover drawing heads and portraits. The Spring Semester will cover the entire body.

A community art project in conjunction with the City of Plainfield, Mural Design and Installation is an interactive course tailored to teach the ins and outs of professional public and private mural making. Learn the creative and business aspects in this genre of public art, by designing and producing a high quality mural on a local traffic box project. Gain a brief history behind modern murals and the innovative urban necessity it has become today through out the United States.  This course will effectively prepare each participant with sufficient understanding of the processes regarding mural design and application such as paint mediums, tool accessory and canvas evaluation which will lead into supply, demand and cost of managing public and privately funded projects.

This class series introduces you to the basic comic book figure industry, including the development of a sequential gag strip and single caricatures. Black and white and color mediums will be used.
