This class is designed for beginners. Students will work on individual and group projects making functional and non-functional objects using wheel throwing methods. Learn to conceptualize, build and design unique, one of a kind pieces in clay. A wide variety of decorating techniques will be introduced.

Explore the creative process of silkscreen printmaking by becoming familiar with various image making techniques. Create your designs, build your screens and learn the essential basics of the silkscreen process. This class is great for creating business logos, t-shirt signature artwork or working with a variety of printable cloth surfaces that can ultimately be used as advertising and marketing tools for shows or events.

CONTEMPORARY PORTRAIT PAINTING [FP-296-1A] / $542.00

This class is a fusion of classical methods and contemporary painting. Explore how to set up the model, block in mosaic color shapes of dark to light while fusing classical methods and contemporary painting. Create a narrative while capturing the character of the model to evoke human presence. Structural landmarks and anatomical points of the skull with strong value design, color and edges are stressed. Textures will be demonstrated in palette knife, drip, splatter and soft rubber bray rollers. Open to all levels, with some experience in portrait drawing and painting.

This course will cover the use of hand tools, sawing, filing, soldering, drilling, polishing, assembling rings and pendants with bezel and prong settings. Shop safety and use of torches, polishing machines, ultrasonic and steam cleaning will be covered. Design one-of-a-kind signature pieces or learn how to cast molds for mass production purposes. Beginners are encouraged.

Typography is the cornerstone of solid graphic design. This class covers the rules of good typography and the basics of how type can “set the mood” for your design. Font styles, sizes, and proper typeface structure can make or break a good layout. With various hand-on projects, students will develop an appreciation for the letter form and understand how type has a visual influence on materials ranging from print to online.

[Foundation] Improve figure drawing skills by studying the underlying structure of the human form, (bone, muscle, tendon, and cartilage), while sharpening observational skills through careful study of the surface form. Work from casts, photos, skeleton, live models, and overlays of the muscular system as anatomical information is applied to artistic use. The fall semester will cover drawing heads and portraits. The Spring Semester will cover the entire body.
